By trade, I am an event planner. It comes within the marketing territory. I've planned events for John Legend, Lionel Richie, fiduciary brunches with Coretta Scott King and Andrew Young, promo tours with Jill Scott and Eryka Badu. It's all a breeze...
... that until you add a pool and a bunch of children under one...
I am in the process of planning Jaiden's most important birthday party which is taking place on July 5, 2008. This- by far is the hardest event that I've ever planned.
Why(?) might you ask??? Well, for starters, when you are used to planning huge events, it get's really hard not to make everything you do a production! I can't figure out where to put the DJ when I realize I don't need one! I can't figure out who is going to butler pass the appetizers- when I realize kids eat peanut butter and jelly- but I can't serve that because some children are allergic! Oh the horror of it all. Thousands upon thousands I have entertained and 12 children are making me quiver in my boots.
I've prioritized my list with a simple trip to party city last month. I wanted my baby shower to be a Baby-Q; but I now realize that it is a more appropriate 1st birthday theme. I saw some plastic buckets on sale for $1 each, so I figured that would be extra fun for the wee ones!
Next, I am getting a kiddie pool, some food for the adults, a couple of cute pool toys, and some other tchoskies to complete the event. I'm trying my hardest to "dumb it down" or K.I.S.S. (keep it simple, sweatheart). In two hours, we will be in and out! Hopefully...
Well, I keep you posted and post pictures when I am not at work. I could do it now; but Ne-Yo's camp is on the other line. Maybe my sandbuckets will work for his event...
